| The U-S Park Service says the older Old Faithful gets, the more the geyser at Yellowstone National Park slows down. In the 1950s, it erupted every 62 minutes. Lately, it's been erupting every 77 minutes. Some experts say Old Faithful may someday just stop. | |

| The Y Bridge in Zanesville was first built in 1814 to span the confluence of the Licking and Muskingum Rivers. The current bridge is the fifth construction at the same location. “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” proclaimed it the only bridge in the world which you can cross and still be on the same side of the river. | |

| Iceland Had the World's First Legislature
The first legislature in the world was formed in Pingvellir, Iceland, in 930. Called the Althing, this legislature met at Thingvellir until 1799, when it disbanded for many years. It returned in 1844, moving to Reyjavik, Iceland's capital, where it has been ever since.
The Althing has 63 members in one house of government.
For years, Iceland was part of Denmark. The Althing voted independence for Iceland in 1944.

| The wick of a trick candle has small amounts of magnesium in them. When you light the candle, you are also lighting the magnesium. When someone tries to blow out the flame, the magnesium inside the wick continues to burn and, in just a split second (or two or three), relights the wick. | |

| Budapest Is Really Two Cities
Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is really two cities: Buda and Pest.
Built by the Celts in the first century B.C., Budapest was originally called Ak Ink,meaning "spring rich in water." About a hundred years later, when the Romans arrived, the inhabitants moved but kept their town's na.e ("Aquincum" to the Romans). After the Romans left, Goths and other Germanic tribes took over.
About the 10th century, Obuda (from a person's name) became Hungary's first center. Not too long after, the nearby town of Pest sprang up. Finally, the town of Buda (not to be confused with Obuda) began. The combination of these three towns was 25,000 to 30,000 in population, making it one of the largest population centers in Europe.
Through the years, the boundaries between the cities have blurred, with Obuda being absorbed. Now, the Danube River divides the two towns that are really one: Buda + Pest = Budapest.

| The famous painting done by Leonardo Da Vinci that everyone calls the Mona Lisa is not really called that. Its real title is La Gioconda.
The woman in the painting was the wife of a man named Francesco del Gioconda, and so the painting was titled, by its creator La Gioconda. It was known for a time as the Madonna Lisa, which probably explains why it has its present name.
Leonardo created this painting over many years, beginning in 1503. When he finished it is debated by historians. During this time, he also was painting many other things, building sculptures, and making new inventions.
As for her famous smile, art historians still debate why she is smiling and what that smile represents. Everyone who sees the painting probably has his or her own ideas.
One last thing: Did you ever notice that the woman in this most of paintings has no eyebrows? It's true. Look closely. Women at that time were considered more beautiful if they had their eyebrows shaved.

| The igloo is the most common symbol identified with Eskimos, yet most Eskimos don't live in what most people think an igloo is.
Igloo is simply the Eskimo word for "house." So, technically, most eskimos DO live in igloos, as they define them, but not as most people think of them.
Mainly through the use of cartoons, people have long thought that Eskimos live in the rounded icehouses in order to keep warm in the cold climates in which they live. This might have been true originally, but it's not true now.
Nowadays, Eskimos live in wood, stone, and even cement buildings. They have heating devices that keep them warm in the colder months.
